perlin noise - early results

michael | generative art | Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Well, the Perlin noise generator shown below is generating something like results. Needs more math before it’s ready for prime time, and also needs some color gamut constraints (by the numbers, most colors in the spectrum are pretty unnatural). But I’m pretty happy overall that for the first time, these images are entirely procedurally generated. Instead of taking an existing photograph (or three) and distorting/abstracting it, I’m pressing a button and artworks are coming out from pure math. This feels like a fruitful path to pursue.
